Dana Biosphere Reserve: A Melting Pot of Life

Discover the Dana Biosphere Reserve, Jordan’s largest and most magnificent nature sanctuary—an area of staggering beauty, profound history, and exceptional biodiversity. Dana is the only reserve in Jordan that encompasses the country’s four distinct bio-geographical zones: Mediterranean, Irano-Turanian, Saharo-Arabian, and Sudanian.

This unique confluence creates a dynamic melting pot of species from Europe, Africa, and Asia. Such a combination of natural communities in a single area is unparalleled in the Kingdom. The Reserve is a vital refuge, protecting many rare and endangered species. To date, a total of 800 plant species and 449 animal species have been recorded, including 25 endangered species such as the Sand Cat, Syrian Wolf, Lesser Kestrel, and Spiny Tailed Lizard.
